Thomas Cup 2010 – LIVE in Malaysia

May 9, 2010

Been pretty busy these days with work and with limited time, I’ve been finding it difficult to blog.. However, the biggest tournament of the year is in Malaysia and how can I miss such a blogging occasion? 🙂 It’s time to eat badminton, sleep badminton and talk badminton again..

This years Thomas Cup to me will be one of the most exciting Thomas Cup for Malaysians. Few reason to this..

1. We’re playing on home soil.. The home crowd will give M’sia an edge over the rest due to the hardcore fans who will be cheering for their home nation. Because of this, the last time we won the Thomas Cup in 1992 was due to our home crowd support..

2. We’ve got a strong team overall..  one of the strongest M’sian team since 1992. We have on paper, World No. 1 in Singles thru Chong Wei and World No.1 in doubles thru Tan Boon Heong and KKK.. 2 points look solid for us and all we need is for Choon Han or our second doubles to deliver.

MALAYSIA: Lee Chong Wei, Wong Choong Hann, Muhd Hafiz Hashim, Koo Kien Keat/Tan Boon Heong, Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif/Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari.

3. Its been 18 years since we have won the cup.. We’re Hungryyyy to bring the Thomas Cup back!

To all M’sian Fans out there.. the impossible looks possible this year.. Hang in there and lets cheer M’sia on..

But wait.. its not going to be an easy road for M’sia.. to me there are 4 teams which have the players to take us down. China, Korea, Denmark and Indonesia can be a worry to us… but I honestly think that we’ll make it to the Semi’s easily..

To all your badminton lovers dont forget to catch the games LIVE on TV or online thru The group stages are all free however you’ll need to pay for the knock-out stages.

Here’s one of my fav moments as a Malaysian kid supporting our country to glory in 1992. At that time Rashid Sidek was my hero 🙂

Here’s a classic game between Rashid vs Ardy..

Malaysia 1- 0 Indonesia

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3 You’ll see the ending of the singles followed by Razif and Jalani vs  Eddy Hartono & Rudy Gunawan

This time around Malaysia 1-1 Indonesia

Part 4 After the doubles, you’ll see M’sia fight back thru Foo Kok Keong who beats Alan Budi Kasuma

Part 5 Now Malaysia leads 2-1 Indonesia. Here comes the most important game of the day. Cheah Soon Kit/Soo Beng Kiang vs Ricky and Rexy

Finally Malaysia bags the Thomas Cup after 25 years 🙂 3-1.

Dont miss the action of the 2010 Thomas Cup as this may just be Malaysia’s year!

Ciao da mao

sport is sports! there shouldn’t/musn’t be politiking . . but in malaysia there is so much politiking even in sports! no wonder our sportsmen nor our sportswomen could not do well in many sports that we participated in. our politicians and the so called big ‘names’ often get their selfish selves involved in sports bodies and many don’t even know what that particular sport/game is all about. many more entered the fray to get/trying to get themselves some positions into sports associations without even knowing their own duties/responsibilities. thus making the whole process a mokery! common on our politicians! let our real sport generals who are well verse in their respective fields do their parts and do them well. you politicians don’t interfere! do your parts to take good care of the rakyats improve their wellbeings and their economy and etc. etc . so let our sportsmen and sportswomen excel in their respective fields . . likewise in soccer and badminton. for our uber cup players I salute u all you have tried your very best and there are always winners or losers. don’t give up but continue to train harder to achieve better results in future. for those of you who run the show ‘the sports/games administers’ don’t always look for a scapegoat! for thomas cuppers try your best this afternoon/evening you can beat anybody if you keep your head cool and play to the best of your abilities good luck to you all may you take the cup for our country

STRONG TEAM? You are another person who believes Malaysia has got it. Everyone from the national coaches to BAM are in denial.
Did not know the depth of China’s team…etc etc.??? Where have you all been. Don’t the coaches keep dossiers of their opponents.
My summary – The Malaysian players have NO class, stamina, physique, technical ability be be in the top 4 nations.
The coaches have no idea how to train and groom world class players. Get rid of them immediately.
BAM should be replaced by foreign expertise. Learn from the Chinese or Indonesian.

It was shameful to see unfit and lethargic looking Malaysian players take to the courts and be thrashed by the Chinese. I mean THRASHED. There was NO fight… Luckily the 2nd doubles pair did not take to the courts. They Looked OVERWEIGHT. Too much nasi lemak and hokkien mee.

BAM and coaches -> Please stop kidding yourself that you all know the game and ways to be word beaters. YOU ALL HAVE NO IDEA.

    hi Cathl,

Well yes this malaysia team is one of the strongest we have in years.
Lee Chong Wei is one of the top players in the world and he’s the only one who has a small chance of winning lin dan.
Our first doubles are strong and can win games if they keep focus and play more on the attack.

If we won the first 2 games against China, with the crowd support, we would have a chance of the 3rd point from the 3rd singles or 2nd doubles.

I have to agree with you that the Malaysian team didnt have the fighting spirit. I expected more from them as they had the whole nation supporting them from start to the end. They didnt have the mental strength to fight on and use the crowd cheering for them to win.

I think BAM needs re-look at the long term plan for the coming years. I’m amazed that we dont have another Wong Choon Han replacement. It shows that we cant have a solid squad in 3-4 years from now.. I think we need to expose more junior players and groom them to take over Chong Wei.

I think we need proper sports adminstrators or management to groom professional players. Nicole David is a great example of a professional Malaysian player. I cant think of anyone else in M’sia.
