The finals was pretty exciting to me.. I honestly loved the women’s singles finals and the mens singles finals.. Both finals had some really great badminton which was played.
The womens finals showed some great mental strength and some great net play by Saina. Coming from a younger player with less experience, pulling off those sharp net plays would be quite difficult to do.
In the mens singles finals, one moment which caught my eye was when Taufik Hidayat did a backhand smash cross courts. The shuttle was just wide but the amount of strength the shot produced was amazing. I was in awe! Chong Wei knew it too and thats why if you look closely, he was smiling too and thankful that shot did not enter.
Would like to do a quicky on which games you loved the most?
Among all the other games, the Womens singles was very entertaining to watch. Former world junior champion Wang Ling vs Saina Nehwal who is the reigning world junior champion.
At the start of the game, I wrote Saina off by telling my cousin that Wang Ling would whoop Saina’s ass and mannnn I was wrong. The first set seemed to be an ass whooping but the second set onwards took a turn. Saina played very impressive with her sharp netshots which Wang Lin had difficulties returning. Saina was also very steady returning every shot of Wang Ling’s and there were no answers for the Chinese player to deny Saina being the first ever Indian womens player to win the Super Series. Kudos to Saina and I wish her all the best as its always lovely to have more young and upcoming players challenging the top.
Here’s the video for all you smashing fans! btw, check out Lin Dan acting in the Kia Ad lol
An interesting week with really interesting results in this years indonesian open. Taufik failed to win his 7th indonesian championship but he was beaten by a Lee Chong Wei who demonstrated that he’s world no. 1. There were some nice shots being played by both sides but in the end, Chong Wei’s speed, accuracy and strength was the key factor. Credit to Chong Wei for overcoming his nerves and the crowd. The crowd was amazing.. they were fun to watch and I wish i was there.. check the video out and you’ll know what i mean.. On the other hand it was good to see Taufik playing in the finals and I can only hope he will continue to be driven to play the game.
Here’s the Indonesian Open 2009 Men’s Singles Video:
It was a good day for Malaysian badminton yesterday when Lee Chong Wei and Wong Pei Tty/Chin Eei Hui both made it to the finals of the Indonesian Open 2009.
Chong Wei will meet Taufik Hidayat in the finals while Pei Tty and Eei Hui will meet China’s Zhao Yunlei and Cheng Shu.
It will be an interesting matchup in the mens singles as Chong Wei will be looking to quiet the indonesian fans in Taufiks home ground. Chong Wei is in way more better condition than Taufik from what I have seen thus far. Taufik however needs to change his style a little more in the finals where stronger tactics would give him an upper hand. For Taufik to win, I think he has to take the game in 2 sets and he has to win at the net. Chong Wei however has everything for him, with Taufik’s lack of speed, Chong Wei can wear him out easily. Lets see the how the crowd will impact this finals.
Last time they played in the ALL England, it was all the way Lee Chong Wei..
it has been a while since i have written a post as time has not been on my side. What excites me this time around is the Indonesian Open 2009 mens singles. we have 2 local favourites in the semis playing againts 2 other world class players.
i was shocked to see lin dan go down to chen jin in 3 sets in the quarters. i was looking forward to another lin dan vs chong wei finals but i guess by lin dan out, the tournament is more open. We have Taufik who is the crowd fav vs sony dwi. this is a difficult game to pick a winner, but somehow i feel taufik will take this game. In the other semis we have chong wei vs chen jin. My gut feel tells me that chong wei will take this game easily to create a fun and exciting finals vs a local favourite.
here is why i feel it would be a great finals with the fans supporting taufik or sony.. not too sure if chong wei can take the supporters chants.. its going to be a great finals!
The All England ended up to be an all China affair whereby the Chinese swept all titles this year around. They showcased their supreme power in the sport when they upset the world no. 1 in the Mens Singles and Womens Singles. I did a poll recently on who would win both the singles finals and Chong Wei and Tine Rasmussen were the favourite choices of the many fans.
Tine showed great fighting spirit in the attempt to defend her title but that was not good enough. Wang Yihan showed some great characted to defeat Tine who is much taller and stronger than her. I think Tine is brings a good balance to the womens singles as for these past few years it was dominated by the Chinese players.
In the mens singles, Lin Dan showed to the world that he is the worlds best and he also proved that the world no. 1 ranking does not really say much. Credit to Chong Wei as he showed an imporved characted and a stronger mental strength this time around. He fought well point after point in the first set but it is hard to play Lin Dan who anticipates every move of his well. Lin Dan played lots of variety and he could easily up his pace to maintain a constant lead againts Chong Wei. Lin Dan beat Chong Wei 21-19, 21-12. Honestly I think Chong Wei needs to start winning important tournaments which Lin Dan plays just to prove a point.
The final stage of the All England has arrived. There are some great battles in all areas. The highlight for me would be the Men’s singles finals between Lee Chong Wei and Lin Dan. Lee Chong Wei will be gunning for his first All England championship while Lin Dan will be gunning to prove to the world that he is the real world no. 1.
My second highlight of the finals would be the Women’s Singles finals whereby Tine Rasmussen will be defending her title she won last year. She played superbly in the semi’s to come back from a game down and 10 points behind in the second set to make it here today. She has another battle for her in the finals as the up-coming Wang Yihan will be going all out to upset the current world no. 1 Tine.
I was expecting an exciting battle for this but it was a dissapointing All England Semi’s to me as Taufik did not play at his best. The first set, they battled point by point till it was 8 all. After which it was just cruise control for Lee as Taufik made mistake after mistake. Lee Chong Wei cruises thru to the finals to meet world no.2 Lin Dan. Lee Chong Wei defeated Taufik Hidayat 21-8, 21-13.
Building up to this great matchup, Lee Chong Wei is the favourite to win as he had some easy matches leading up to the semi’s. Taufik however had to play some difficult games which would have worn him out a little before the semi’s match.
In terms of fitness, Lee Chong Wei wins hands down. In terms of movement around the courts, Lee Chong Wei is much faster compared to the aged taufik. Taufik however is a smarter player compared to Lee Chong Wei and he makes up for the loss of speed and fitness with some brilliant game plays to suit his style. Taufik’s strokes are better however when he starts to feel tired, thats when he looses focus and that would be a good thing for Lee Chong Wei. If Lee Chong Wei takes Taufik to 3 sets, the game would favour the Malaysian. Taufik however does not look at sharp and conditioned for the semi but I’m looking forward to this great matchup and hope both of them put on a good show for all the badminton lovers from around the world.
Hey Ya’ll this is a great match between two badminton greats. For all those like me who live in Asia, the match was too late to watch howeever I am thankful to badmintonfreak, here’s what the game had to offer.
Out of 11 matches they have played, Peter Gade has won 6 againts Taufiks 5. Peter Gade beat taufik in their last 2 tournaments. In summary, both players tried keeping the ball low and tried to control the game by having lots of attacking play. The game was very close as both players were fighting each other point by point. I like the part when the score was 2-4, both players went thru some fast attacking drives to each other and that didn’t work for either players and then they decided to change the play in that rally to a more defensive style of lob which Taufik ended at the losing end. During the last few points is where Taufik kept focus and had a little extra to beat Peter Gade.
